Every child deserves the opportunity to achieve their dreams, and learning to read is a critical step in that journey. Literacy isn’t just about words on a page, it’s the cornerstone of empowerment and liberation for every individual.
Each child holds within them boundless potential and dreams waiting to flourish. We, at The Norwood School believe that every child regardless of background or circumstance deserves the opportunity to unlock their dreams through the power of literacy.
Literacy is not just learned in school , it’s learned everywhere. Students can learn about literacy from reading road signs, grocery boxes, listening stories and home languages and even exploring the internet.
Learning to read is a strong predictor of a student’s future academic achievement. Literacy has always been important and in today’s knowledge based global economy, it is even more true.
The objective of the school is to assist the students by means of literacy to unfold their latest talents and to help them to grow to the highest possible level in as many fields as is possible for each individual. With joint effort of home and school the child should be hooked on to reading. Let the child learn to read, and then he will read to learn.
Thus equipped with the power of literacy, our learners can open doors to a brighter future where they can pursue their dreams and better their community.
The quarters of the shield represent different aspects of learning:

The name “Norwood” is a combination of two words NOR and WOOD. “Nor” is the abbreviated version of “north” i.e. the geographical location of the school in the north India. “Wood” is inspired from Sir Charles Wood, 1st Viscount Halifax. Sir Charles Wood was an Anglo-Indian Whig politician and Member of Parliament of the British Empire. He also served as Chancellor of the Exchequer. As the President of the Board of Control, Wood took a major step in spreading education in India when in 1854, he sent a despatch to Lord Dalhousie, the then Governor General of India. In accordance with Wood’s despatch, the Education Departments were established and universities were opened at Calcutta, Bombay and Madras in 1857, at Punjab in 1882 and at Allahabad in 1887.
